These terms denote an opening or split in the upper lip or on the roof of the mouth or both of the above. Sometimes, a Cleft Lip may just be a little notch in the lip, creating a minor cosmetic deformity. A common congenital condition, it occurs when the lip-forming tissues do not join or develop entirely, before birth.
