Causes and Treatment of Gynecomastia

Whenever we are asked about Gynecomastia, we simply say that it is a condition that makes
breast tissue swell in boys and men.
The word gynecomastia comes from the phrase, gyneco-, meaning “girl or lady” and mazos
meaning “breast.” Gynecomastia is generally referred to as man boobs.
Gynecomastia is the non-cancerous occurrence of a rubber-like or company lump extending
concentrically, bilaterally and symmetrically from the nipple. In some instances, there can
also be fatty deposits, which makes the nipple and breast appear larger and feminine.
Gynacomastia occurs most frequently in obese men. The causes of Gynecomastia can be
the result of taking pills, supplements, hormonal modifications, and many others.
It is fairly common in teenage boys and older men. If it develops during adolescence years, it
may resolve on its own. This process can take multiple years. Instances show that up to
70% of teenage boys develop gynecomastia during puberty. If it persists beyond
adolescence, it will possibly be a permanent circumstance. In a few instances, gynecomastia
may have been present before maturity, but wasn’t noticed due to its mildness, however with
increasing weight and/or aging, the development of the same becomes substantive and
visible.
Gynecomastia is insusceptible to diet and exercising. And, there are no drugs or lotions
proven to remove gynecomastia. Surgery is the only treatment as this will permanently
correct gynecomastia.
